Short Writing Assignment 3 - Thesis & Detailed Outline
As we move forward into our third essay, which is 7-10 pages long, you will need to have a clear and strong thesis to drive your project, as well as clear structure and organization. To this end, you will create a document that contains your thesis and a detailed outline with quotations from your texts. You may also include an annotated bibliography of any secondary sources you might use, but this is not required.
Your paper must use MLA format, which includes citing and documenting all sources. You must use 12 pt Times New Roman font and your work must be double-spaced, as always.
Due Date
SWA 3 will be due in electronic form at 11:59PM on Friday, Week 13. It will be returned to you with comments during the next class period, in order to aid in your drafting of Essay 3.
Detailed Description
Just as in the last SWA, you should begin this document with a proposed title. Then, in essay format, lay out your thesis statement (which should be anywhere from 1-2 sentences to a short paragraph). After that, create a detailed draft of an outline for Essay 3. Throughout this outline, you should include direct quotes from both primary texts that you plan to use as evidence. Your outline should include, at the very least, three direct quotes from each primary text, fully cited in MLA FORMAT (SIX quotations in total); if you plan on using secondary sources, then you should include quotes from them as well. Furthermore, if you are using secondary sources, you should follow your outline with an annotated bibliography (just like you did in SWA 2), though this is not required.
